# The encrypted link isn't up yet

> Your iPhone is on the network, but the encrypted Wi-Fi link to it isn't up. Unlock it and keep it on the same Wi-Fi as this Mac.

You see this: `mobster doctor` prints `! Wi-Fi link  … is on the network, but the encrypted link isn't up yet` for a phone with Wi-Fi on. Mobster for Mac and `mobster wifi probe` say it as `The encrypted link to` your iPhone's name `isn't up yet.`

## Why it happens

Wi-Fi goes through Apple's encrypted link between this Mac and the phone, the one Xcode uses for **Connect via network**. A locked or sleeping phone leaves it down.

## Fix

1. Unlock the iPhone and keep it on the same Wi-Fi as this Mac.
2. Wait. Mobster brings the link up when it needs it and tries again by itself.
3. If it stays down, plug the phone in to use it now, then run `mobster wifi probe`.

## Check it worked

`mobster doctor` prints `✓ Wi-Fi link  … is reachable over the encrypted Wi-Fi link`. The rest of the Wi-Fi messages are in [Wi-Fi](https://docs.mobster.dev/wifi.md#when-it-doesnt-work).
