# Use Mobster from Cursor

> Add Mobster's MCP server to Cursor in one click or one command. Only Claude Code and Codex are tested with the server.

Use Mobster's command below to add its MCP server to Cursor's config. The server exposes Mobster's tools, including `verify_start`, `screen`, `tap` and `run_tests`. See [the MCP server](https://docs.mobster.dev/mcp-server.md) for the full list.

To add the skill as well, see [Editors and Xcode](https://docs.mobster.dev/agents/editors.md).

## Add it

With Mobster for Mac in Applications, open this link in Cursor and confirm:

[Add Mobster to Cursor](cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=mobster\&config=eyJjb21tYW5kIjoiL0FwcGxpY2F0aW9ucy9Nb2JzdGVyLmFwcC9Db250ZW50cy9NYWNPUy9tb2JzdGVyLWFnZW50IiwiYXJncyI6WyJtY3AiXX0=)

Or add it from the terminal:

```sh theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
mobster mcp install cursor
```

It prints what it changed:

```text theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
Mobster's MCP server: /Applications/Mobster.app/Contents/MacOS/mobster-agent mcp
  Cursor          added      ~/.cursor/mcp.json
Restart Cursor to load the change.
New sessions of the other clients pick it up. Check it with `mobster mcp doctor`.
```

Add `--dry-run` to see the change first and write nothing. Run the command again and nothing changes. Mobster for Mac does the same from Settings › Connectors: **Add** beside Cursor, under **Use Mobster from…**.

## What it writes

The entry goes in `~/.cursor/mcp.json`, which Cursor reads in every project:

```json ~/.cursor/mcp.json theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mobster": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "/Applications/Mobster.app/Contents/MacOS/mobster-agent",
      "args": ["mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

Mobster keeps the rest of the file as it is, with a copy of the old one beside it (`.mobster-backup`). It writes the full path to `mobster` because apps opened from the Dock don't see your shell's `PATH`, and it never writes a key. `--project .` writes this repository's `.cursor/mcp.json` instead.

## Check it

```sh theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
mobster mcp doctor
```

The doctor starts the server the way Cursor does, lists its tools and calls `status`. On 26 Oct 2026 (Mobster 0.4.0, no key set) its last lines were:

```text theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
OK in 1549 ms.
  Cursor          set up     ~/.cursor/mcp.json
```

Restart Cursor. Its settings list `mobster` with its tools under MCP.

## Check a screen

Build your app for the simulator, then ask Cursor's agent in your project:

```text theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
Use Mobster to check that the app's first screen shows "Today".
```

Ask your agent to call `verify_start` with the app's path and the expectation. Ask it to drive the simulator with `screen` and `tap`. Ask it to finish with `verify_finish`. `verify_finish` checks the declared expectations. You get a verdict of `passed`, `failed`, `needs_review` or `couldnt_run`. You get the report path and an overlay frame when available. No model grades the outcome. Your agent supplies the model access for this loop. [The key-less loop](https://docs.mobster.dev/mcp-server.md#the-key-less-loop)

## Add the rules and the skill

```sh theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
mobster mcp install cursor --with-skill --rules .
```

`--rules .` writes `.cursor/rules/mobster.mdc` and a block in `AGENTS.md`, which tell Cursor's agent to check its UI changes with Mobster. `--with-skill` copies the skill into `~/.agents/skills/ios-testing`: the verify loop and the rules for a real iPhone, such as asking before anything that sends, buys, posts or deletes. Run it again and nothing changes.

To see your checks and the simulator beside your code, add [Mobster's extension for Cursor and VS Code](https://docs.mobster.dev/agents/editor-extension.md).

## Remove the MCP server

```sh theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
mobster mcp install cursor --remove
```

This removes the `mobster` entry and leaves your other servers alone. Add `--rules .` to take the rules out too. Cursor's own reference for the file is at [https://cursor.com/docs/context/mcp](https://cursor.com/docs/context/mcp).
